The
Japanese government offers various assistance programs to meet the diverse
needs of developing countries through ODA. In international cooperation,
the role of NGOs and local governments has become more important, both
in Japan and in developing countries.
Japan
International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is the Japanese government agency
for implementing development assistance. JICA India Office works in
partnership with the Government of India (GOI), and supports to achieve
the GOI’s objectives through various JICA schemes.
NGO-JICA
Japan Desk is a new scheme of JICA India Office. The Desk’s objective
is to support sustainable development in developing countries by promoting
the participation of Japanese Non Profit Organizations such as NGOs
and universities (refered to here as "Japanese NGOs").
Aside
from India, there are NGO-JICA Japan Desks in 18 countries providing
similar services.

1. To provide
information and to assist Japanese NGOs towards the implementation of
international cooperation activities in India.
2. To provide
a forum for sharing information and experiences for both Japanese NGOs
and Indian NGOs, as well as opportunity to utilize JICA resources for
their activities.

1.
To support the activities of Japanese NGOs in India;
• To provide information regarding rules and regulations for implementing
projects in India
• To provide information and assistance to Japanese NGOs that
are interested in JICA’s NGO schemes
• To provide consultation in related areas

To facilitate and to assist Japanese NGOs executing JICA Partnership
Programme (JPP) and other JICA’s NGO schemes;
• To monitor the ongoing JPP projects.
• To formulate new projects
• To facilitate the human resources development of Japanese NGOs
and facilitate dispatch of technical experts to Japanese NGOs

To strengthen the cooperation between Japanese NGOs and JICA;
• To provide information regarding NGO legislation and general
information of Indian NGOs to JICA HQs, Domestic Centres and Overseas
Offices
• To update database of resource persons in India for NGO activities
such as JICA training ex-participants
• To organize seminar and workshop in order to support collaboration
and partnership between Indian and Japanese NGOs
